Open Source Device Fingerprint Obfuscation Checker

Wikipedia defines a device fingerprint (a.k.a. machine fingerprint/browser fingerprint) as information collected about a remote computing device for the purpose of identification. Device fingerprints can fully or partially identify individual users or devices even when cookies are turned off.

Basic web browser information has long been collected by web analytics services in an effort to accurately measure real human web traffic and discount various forms of click fraud. With the assistance of client-side scripting languages, collection of much more esoteric parameters is possible.

Fingerprints have proven useful in the detection and prevention of online identity theft and credit card fraud.

One difficulty is identifying the trustworthyness of what is being presented. Are the fingerprints being tampered with to obfuscate or anonimize the identification or not?

This tool allows the detection of the obfuscation and makes an attempt to identify the true information via a number of techniques, most which cannot be anonymized.

Darkwave Technologies project is to develop code to make it simpler for developers to identify a forged fingerprint for a device.
